Save Kynnefjäll, Mossutställningar

*A reading from the diaries of Save Kynnefjäll

  • Performed by actress Linda Lönnerfeldt and in collaboration with the Save Kynnefjäll association and Mossans Market.

When Kynnefjäll was proposed as a site for final storage of nuclear fuel, the local population mobilized a vigorous resistance movement with the support of environmental networks. Day and night for almost 20 years (1980–2000), the site was guarded by people associated with the Save Kynnefjäll resistance movement. When drilling equipment was to be flown in by helicopter, thousands of people gathered on the mountain and the helicopter was unable to land. The guard hut, which was populated by people from the local community as well as visitors from networks such as Avfallskedjan (The Waste Chain), still stands on the site – full of diplomas, handicrafts, engraved words and notes from the many hours spent guarding the site. Many people worked tirelessly and with conviction to win the battle for Kynnefjäll. Many are the people who proudly talk about the community and solidarity that formed the basis for saving Kynnefjäll. The battle for Kynnefjäll became a media story about David versus Goliath, a success story about the little man versus the state.

The scene at the market was constructed according to precise measurements from the guard hut, and a fire burned in the stove while the diaries were being read.
